If you have previous swing dance experience, be aware that dancing to modern music has long been an Athens custom, and one that we cherish. We haven’t abandoned the old classics, but we do mix them in with neo-swing, rock and roll, hip hop, Broadway show tunes, and plenty of other styles you aren’t used to hearing on the dance floor. Why do we do this? We do it because our only goal is to create an environment where people can have fun swing dancing together, and to that end the only musical distinction that matters is which songs are fun to dance to and which ones are not.

Mind you, we’re fully aware that a vocal minority within the larger swing dance community believes only classic swing songs are appropriate for swing dance, and with them we must respectfully disagree. The original swing dancers, after all, got on their feet to the newest, most exciting music of their time, and that tradition is far more important to us than exactly preserving this hobby as it once was. So if you’re rooted in another scene where classic swing music was the norm, come to Athens ready to be challenged by the playlist and to innovate your move repertoire accordingly, just as many others before you have. If you don’t feel that your up to that, we suggest that you instead investigate one of the many other swing dance events that cater to your specific needs.
