Swung

WHAT IS SWUNG?
Swung is the official performance troupe of Athens and The University of Georgia. The group serves three purposes:
  1. To practice, choreograph, and perform styles of swing dancing including Lindy Hop, Charleston, and Balboa.
  2. To serve as outreach for the UGA Swing Club and Athens Swing Night by helping to improve the swing and social dancing community in Athens, Georgia.
  3. To have fun!
WHAT CAN SWUNG DO FOR ME?
Swung is available to dance at your next social event / halftime show / dance performance / etc. In addition to performing a number of choreographed pieces, we can also teach swing lessons or DJ a swing dance. Please contact us at swungathensga@gmail.com for information on booking the troupe.

HOW CAN I JOIN SWUNG?
Swung will hold workshops open to all intermediate dancers at least twice per year (typically August and February). *If an attendee expresses interest,* this workshop will serve as their audition to join the group. We’ll work on a combination of skills in these sessions including technique, learning new vocabulary (moves), and learning choreography.
What we’re looking for:
  • Dance ability
  • Learning ability
  • Performance ability
  • Working in a group setting (positive, helpful, polite, takes direction/critique well)
  • Dedication to Swing dance in Athens
Regular attendance at Swing Night and/or UGA Swing Club, participation in additional workshops, traveling to other scenes/events, and getting involved with Classic City Swing (Athens’ annual weekend event) are all great ways to show your commitment. A healthy dose of any or all of these items is a definite plus!
